Sometimes you just have to take life by the horns and sometimes the horns look like a computer keyboard while navigating an online auction… Okay, there are better metaphors for this, but the concept should be clear. After multiple conversations and repeated handwringing, we took the plunge and entered our first auction bid for a school bus.
I decided to surprise Katy since it was her birthday. Katy, though, has a curious streak and once her determined sixth sense was triggered by my incessant staring at a computer screen, she needed to know what was going on. I had already prepped the camera to capture her reaction to the “Surprise! I bought you a school bus!!!” moment. (Because I know that’s what every girl wants for her birthday.) Unfortunately, that is not how it went down.
Instead, because she needed to know what I was up to, the surprise was ruined. What I ultimately recorded on video, however, was an interesting glimpse at what it’s like to bid, lose, and bid, and lose again, and finally win a school bus on an online auction.
I wrote a piece entitled “How and Where to Buy a School Bus” which provides greater detail about buying from online auctions as well as alternatives to them.
